In the wake of escalating needs, Prague, in collaboration with Central Bohemia, opened an assistance centre on March 4, 2022, for Ukrainian refugees. The centre, bustling with over 120 volunteers daily, has already aided over 15,000 refugees, with the influx showing no signs of abating.

A unified volunteer registration was initiated at pomahamepraze.sinch.cz, facilitated by the nationwide online portal Vlna pomoci, with volunteer coordination managed by the Regional Association of the Czech Red Cross Prague 1.

Prague Mayor Zdeněk Hřib appreciates the selfless contributions of all volunteers and encourages more individuals to register and offer their skills through a simple form. The major demand at the assistance centre is currently for interpreters and childcare assistants.

“During the first 12 hours alone, we registered over a thousand new volunteers just in Prague. Over the week, the offer will also extend to Central Bohemia, and we believe there will be interest in other areas where there is an urgent need for help for Ukrainian refugees,”

David Suslík from Vlna pomoci.

The non-profit initiative Vlna pomoci has deployed a web application to ensure a swift and efficient coordination of volunteers. Anyone keen to help can easily register and choose from current offers by various organizations across the republic.

The digitization of volunteerism through Vlna pomoci is elevating the whole process to a new level of efficiency. This initiative has introduced the all-in-one OnSinch application, already utilized by over 85,000 users in the commercial sector across Europe, to the non-profit sector. OnSinch is significantly cutting down time and costs involved in coordination by up to 90%, covering a gamut of tasks from registration, planning, database management, on-site helper organization to final reporting and evaluation.
